Design Tips

Color harmony, typography, alignment, contrast, and even animation all play an important part in your website's success.

You must work closely with your designer to make sure your website looks and functions in such a way that it not only accurately represents your company, but also makes people want to keep coming back or to refer others.

Keep the following tips in mind while planning the design of your website:

  1. Remember that the colors you choose will set the mood for your website.
  2. The background color(s) should contrast with the text enough to make it easy to read.
  3. Text should not be flush against the side(s) of the page or stretched all the way across.
  4. Fonts used for non-image text should be commonly found on all computers.
  5. WORDS WRITTEN IN ALL-CAPS ARE MORE DIFFICULT TO READ - USE SPARINGLY.
  6. Use centered alignment carefully... objects and text can get lost easily.
  7. Make sure your images enhance the content of the website and not detract from it.
  8. Animation should be used carefully so as not to distract or annoy your users.
  9. Make sure your pages have a focal point and that they don't get too cluttered.
  10. And check your website in multiple browsers and platforms; you may be very surprised to find out just how different a website can look on an old PC using Netscape versus how it looks using Internet Explorer on a Macintosh.
