Step By Step Guide to Setting Up A New Website

Need step-by-step help to set up your new website? Here's what we recommend:

  1. GoDaddy.comGo to Go Daddy and enter a domain name you want in the box "Start Your Domain Name Search Here:"
    and hit "Go"
  2. If the domain name you want is taken, try again until you get one that you like.
  3. Once you get the message, "This domain name IS AVAILABLE:" then you can scroll down the page and hit the "Continue" button.
  4. Continue to checkout... Go Daddy will offer you several other "add-ons" which you really don't need, although some people do opt for "private registration".
  5. Once you are done paying for your domain name, Go Daddy will send you a confirmation email which you should save in a secure location.
  6. HostGator.comNow, go to Host Gator and click on "Web Hosting"
Then scroll down and click on the "order now" link under the plan you think will best meet your needs.
  7. Next, select " I will use My Existing Domain and update My Nameservers only" and enter your domain name
(ie. georgesfishshop.com)  The rest of the requested information should be self explanatory.
  8. Once you have your account set up, they will send you a confirmation email and give you your nameserver settings which will look something like:

    ns78.hostgator.com
    ns79.hostgator.com
  9. Next, log into your Go Daddy account and click on "My Domain Names".  Once you see your account, click on your domain name and a control panel will come up that has a section called "Nameservers Summary".  Click on the link that says "Click here to see details or to modify."  Enter the information that Host Gator sent you.
  10. Now you are ready to start uploading your website! (That tutorial is coming soon!)
